Texas needs more nurse aides: about 13,700 openings every year

If you are thinking about a career in health care, nurse aide (CNA) is one of the fastest ways in — and Texas needs you.

The numbers

  • Texas had 88,290 nursing assistants in 2024. That number is projected to reach 97,440 by 2034 — growth of 10%.
  • Across the United States, growth is projected at 3%: Texas is growing more than three times faster.
  • Texas expects about 13,710 job openings every year for nursing assistants, as new positions open and current aides move on or retire.

A career ladder, step by step

Many of our students start as a nurse aide and keep growing:

  1. Nurse Aide Training (CNA) — state-approved, with clinical practice in a long-term care facility.
  2. Medication Aide — give medications in nursing, assisted-living and community facilities.
  3. Patient Care Technician or Phlebotomy Technician — hospital and clinic skills.

Classes are small, with morning, evening and weekend schedules, and help in Spanish for testing, books and materials.

Book a class or call us — we will help you choose your first step.
